Plato DVD to PPC Review

DSCF2275Ok, another week has gone by so it’s time for another edition of my little series video con version software reviews I’ve got going here.

This week I’m taking a look at Plato DVD to PPC Converter Software, and it works, and works well! It’s simple to use, just basically three steps from start to finish so anyone should be able to use it with ease.

Simple intro, for simple software.. read on!

First of course the specs or information about the software, here’s a bit info grabbed from the Plato site:

(2) select audio track , subtitle etc.
(3) Select output video format and output profile setting, then start conversion.

You can visit the site here to read the rest if you wish…

After installation just click the shortcut on your desktop and your greeted with a simple interface.1

Across the top are a few options, but nothing really special.

Open is the open a DVD

Navigate is Navigate the DVD

Play is to Play the DVD

(obvious aren’t they?)

Output is to change the Output file settings

Setting is to change a limited couple of settings like auto shutdown after conversion

Status is for Status…

Here’s a quick look at the Settings options before we go on:6

There are just three:

Auto Shutdown computer after conversion

Auto fast forward to main movie

Auto load DVD when app starts

To convert your movie just click the Open button, you’ll have a choice of opening from DVD disc or DVD directory on your hard disc. I’m using Stargate DVD so 2 my choice is to open from DVD obviously.

4 Since the option for Auto Fast Forward is selected the program find the beginning of the movie for you, this is a very nice feature to have. You can either start the conversion process from the selected start point or set your own, this is useful if you wish to cut out the credits etc.

Before you start the conversion process you can select a few options pertaining to the output of the movie. You’ve only got two choices when it comes to 5 formats, either WMV or AVI, since I like AVI files that’s what I’ve got it set to. You can also change audio type, WMA or MP3, Video Size, Audio Channels, Video Quality, Audio Quality, Frame Rate, Sample Rate, Video Aspect, Audio Volume and of course select where you want your converted movie to be stored.

When you’re ready just hit the Start button, sit back and wait.. and wait…and wait.

yeah it takes a while for the DVD to video conversion process to complete.

Here’s the specs of the completed movie:

Time to Convert: 51:50

File Size: 605MB

CPU Usage:

Peak: 48%

Average: 42%

The output file is fairly large, and it takes quite a while to do the conversion, but it’s worth it as the converted movie is near DVD quality, at least it looks really good on your phone.

The video quality is excellent, and the audio is perfectly synced with the video.

The price is $29.88, which to me is a little high for a program that really only does one thing, if it was about $10 cheaper I could easily recommend it to anyone looking for a great piece of software to easily be able to take their movies with them.

As it stands though I can’t really find anything wrong with this program, sure it takes a while to convert, but most any programs that convert directly from DVD take about the same amount of time.

For a score I’d have to rate it as a 4.5 out of 5.

It lost the 1/2 point because of the price…
