HOW TO FLASH YOUR TILT

Flashing your First Rom (For Newbs) by mskip

Everyone was a Newb once and its VERY daunting figuring out how to flash your first Rom, what order to do it in and thinking if you get it wrong you will brick your nice new phone. I read through all the disorganised information on here and put together an *Easy Guide* for the all the Newbs that want a shiny new Rom but are getting confused. I hope its useful useful to the community and clears things up.

I used Jockys HardSPL v3.29 for this as in my opinion it seems to be the most stable with all the most recent Roms (unless otherwise stated on the Roms page that you want to use).

Before you start, backup anything on your phone that you might want to keep after the new Rom has been flashed because all contacts/ emails/ texts/ notes/ Internet BookMarks/ ect. WILL be lost!!

PimBackup is good for this and free (copy any mms attachments to your storage card or computer seperately):

*STEPS 1 – 4 ONLY NEED TO BE CARRIED OUT ONCE. ONCE YOU HAVE FLASHED A HARDSPL AND SECURITY UNLOCKED YOUR PHONE YOU DONT NEED TO DO IT AGAIN*

*DO NOT start another process while the flashing process is taking place*
*DO NOT click off of the status bar… Let it stay in the foreground*
*DO NOT let the Screensaver activate*

(any of these can lead to a bad flash and possibly brick your phone)

1. ** MAKE SURE YOUR KAISER IS AT LEAST 50% BATTERY POWER FIRST **

2. DOWNLOAD AND UNZIP THE FOLLOWING FILE:
http://www.4shared.com/file/65469410…dUnlocker.html

3. Flash HardSPL 3.29

1. Copy JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe and JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe to your device (NOT storage card)
2. Pull out the battery and reinsert it (this step *IS* important)
3. Connect your PC to phone with a USB cable
4. REMOVE SIM and SD CARDS !!
5. Turn phone back on
6. Run JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe on your device (make sure the USB cable is still connected). If you get a white screen then reset your device and now try JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe
7. After a few seconds “USB” appears on the phone display
8. Unplug and replug the usb cable after 30 seconds
9. Deselect “Allow USB connections” in Activesync connection settings (right click activesync bottom corner icon)
10. Now flash hardSPL 3.29 (run KaiserCustomRUU.exe on your PC and follow instructions)

4. CID-Unlock

** YOUR DEVICE MUST BE SYNCED WITH YOUR COMPUTER BEFORE RUNNING EACH STEP **

Run KaiserUnlocker.EXE, follow the instructions.

(bear in mind you will already have Hard-SPL on your device so you can skip *straight* to Step 2)

5. Download and Flash your Prefered Rom

Sync phone with computer and run the KaiserCustomRUU.exe from the Roms’ Folder.

6. Hard Reset

Once phone finishes flashing and gets to the screen where it configures the stylus, Hard reset (press left and right softkey buttons on the front and press reset with stylus)

** Send Button is the Green Button on Front **

7. Follow onscreen instructions to set up your New Rom

8. Job done Well Done YOU Did It.

Follow these instructions and everything should go fine. I have attached all the files needed so you dont need to hunt around for anything. Have confidence.

From Our Own Tyler Earman, Check out his Video!

I’ve created a new video on how to flash a ROM to your AT&T Tilt that’s a little bit more explanatory, has smoother transitions, and is hopefully less vague.  Plus it should have better quality since it’s been uploaded to Vimeo instead of YouTube (which compresses it more).

IMPORTANT!!!!

That being said, lets get started.  Instructions and video after the jump.

First you’ll need HardSPL and JumpSPL.  Links are bellow.

HardSPL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
JumpSPL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061

Next you’ll need a ROM.  You can head on over to the XDA-Developers forum for ROMs or choose one of the ones I like.

Garmin.DK.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409027
Garmin.DK.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404276
AT&T Almost Official 3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400276

Note about the AT&T ROM:  I was using a customized version.  I took the shipped NBH and broke it down into it’s base NB files, then picked and chose the ones I wanted, meaning I was using a significantly different setup from the base AT&T ROM.  If you use the download that you get from the link above, it will install all of the AT&T recommended software (Splash screen, SPL, Radio, and ROM) thus negating the effects of installing HardSPL to begin with.  If you want to have a one hit install of the official AT&T ROM, please wait until it comes out.  This is not the final version and is probably not what you want to begin with.  However, even though I’m installing an AT&T ROM, the process of installing a baked ROM that you want is going to be the same (because of how I broke it down and set it all up).

Also, with the AT&T ROM, I found I needed radio 1.65.20.29 (the radio the AT&T ROM came with) in order to enable HSDPA.  You can get that here via Ultimate Radio Thread.

This should be all you need to get started.  Watch the video for the entire walk-through.
