Game Reviews: Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune

Screen01Today, I’ve got not just one game for you, but two! As I mentioned a few weeks ago in this post, Handmark recently release two brand new games. The titles were released in collaboration with Sony Pictures to bring the popular television game shows to Windows Mobile.

Both titles are currently available from the Handmark online store for $14.99 each. Jeopardy Deluxe can be found here and Wheel of Fortune can be found here.

Read more about each game after the break.

Jeopardy Deluxe

Screen04Instead of ‘buzzing’ in like the real game show, this game provides an interesting style of gameplay. After the game starts and the categories are selected, a question will pop up on the screen with a play-or-pass type option. You have a few seconds to decide between the two. If you choose to play, another timer will start and 4 multiple choice answers will appear on the screen. Choose the correct answer and win the selected monetary amount. Choose the wrong answer and you lose that amount (Yes, you can go negative). If you don’t answer correctly or choose to pass the question, then the computer players are given an opportunity to answer and gain/lose money. Daily Doubles are also present, where you wager any amount of your money on a question, as well as Double Jeopardy (2x dollar amounts) and Final Jeopardy just like the TV Show.

Wheel of Fortune Deluxe

Screen03This version of Wheel of Fortune is almost identical to the television show. There’s three main game types. A typical “Normal” game consists of 2 toss-up rounds and a few puzzles before going on to the final round (if you’re the leading money getter). There’s also a toss-up game mode by itself, where you just play the one type of game. There’s also a daily game type, where the game connects to the Internet and downloads new content unique to each day. This is good for a ‘quick play’ There are many categories and puzzles, just like the real show, as well as lots of virtual money and prizes to win! There’s even a Jackpot space just like the show incorporates occasionally. Overall, this game is a very accurate and fun representation of the television show.

Screen02 Present in both games, an interesting feature is that  you create a virtual person to represent you and he/she is shown throughout the game. Likewise, the graphics are very crisp and the gameplay is smooth. Sound effects and music are also present. Many would think it’s hard to bring such a popular game show to a game format, especially on a pocket device. Handmark and Sony Pictures nailed both of these titles on the head. Both games provide multiple levels of difficulty and a “Category of the Day” feature, helping ensure no repeat categories or puzzles, and supplying fresh content to give you a new challenge every time you play.
