Firefox Mobile Launch Date Sooner Than Later
Some of the news I didn’t get to yesterday was the delayed launch of Mozilla’s Firefox Mobile. The rumored launch date from yesterdays news was sometime 2010. Wow!, that would have put them far behind the likes of Skyfire and Opera. Both of which are making great headway and acceptance as a replacement for Pocket Internet Explorer. I use all three browsers currently as Skyfire is a lot quicker than Opera, and gives me better access to sensitive websites like my banking institutions, but Opera’s touch interface is awesome. Zooming in and out is a pleasure. Then I use Pocket Internet Explorer to quickly check my Gmail, and some RSS feeds embedded in iGoogle. I also really like Bloglines Mobile and use that for my RSS reader.
So when is Firefox mobile going to be released?
From Mozilla’s Mitchell Baker at blog.lizardwrangler.com:
I saw one press article wondering if including “have an effective product in the mobile space” in our 2010 goals means that we won’t ship something interesting until 2010. That is not the case at all. We will ship well before then. The intent of this goal was to say: in 2010 when we look at where we are, it should be screamingly obvious that we’ve done this. That means releasing a good product much sooner, seeing good results and acceptance, and seeing those results grow over time.
This is good news and indicates that we will see something a lot sooner than later from Mozilla and their Firefox Mobile. We will keep you posted as more information becomes available on any pre-release versions.
