How to Flash a ROM video (new version)
I’ve created a new video on how to flash a ROM to your AT&T Tilt that’s a little bit more explanatory, has smoother transitions, and is hopefully less vague. Plus it should have better quality since it’s been uploaded to Vimeo instead of YouTube (which compresses it more).
IMPORTANT!!!!
TiltMobility, writers, affiliates, and otherwise do not accept any responsibility for you messing up your device, follow instructions carefully!
That being said, lets get started. Instructions and video after the jump.
First you’ll need HardSPL and JumpSPL. Links are bellow.
HardSPL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
JumpSPL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061
Next you’ll need a ROM. You can head on over to the XDA-Developers forum for ROMs or choose one of the ones I like.

Note about the AT&T ROM: I was using a customized version. I took the shipped NBH and broke it down into it’s base NB files, then picked and chose the ones I wanted, meaning I was using a significantly different setup from the base AT&T ROM. If you use the download that you get from the link above, it will install all of the AT&T recommended software (Splash screen, SPL, Radio, and ROM) thus negating the effects of installing HardSPL to begin with. If you want to have a one hit install of the official AT&T ROM, please wait until it comes out. This is not the final version and is probably not what you want to begin with. However, even though I’m installing an AT&T ROM, the process of installing a baked ROM that you want is going to be the same (because of how I broke it down and set it all up).
Also, with the AT&T ROM, I found I needed radio 1.65.20.29 (the radio the AT&T ROM came with) in order to enable HSDPA. You can get that here via Ultimate Radio Thread.
This should be all you need to get started. Watch the video for the entire walk-through.

@Tireux: Thanks for the kind comments, good luck with flashing!
@John: That’s Rocketdock. I have a triple monitor setup and, despite my extreme disliking of Apple products, the OSX workflow is not one of them, in fact the workflow of OSX is something I happen to like a lot now that I’ve gotten used to it, so I installed RocketDock and slammed the taskbar all the way to the left on my leftmost screen to encourage me to use the OSX workflow in order to be more productive.

What can you do to backup your files and programs before flashing? If you backup, can you then put everything back on as it was after flashing?
@Who?: You can go with Spb Backup, which is a favorite of mine. Sprite Backup and PIM Backup also exist but I’m not sure if those two backup programs and such.
I typically end up reinstalling my apps after I do another flash
Good video man evenw ith reading tutorials I would still wouldn’t gather enough courage to flash my tilt but after seeing this video I might take the plunge……and can you still do a video on sim unlocking
Good job on the video Tyler! Im getting super close to trying it. I was about to start the whole process and just before I did, I noticed down on the bottom of the FAQ’s on the XDA developers site (where you get the hard/jump spl) that it said that if you have problems try using a non vista operating system. It wigged me out and now im wondering if im going to have to try this on another computer that doesnt run Vista. Has anyone had any problems that you know of? Also, can u verify which 3.56 to use, the 3.56.zip or the 3.56-force-USB.zip? Sorry if thats a stupid queston. Congrats on the move by the way.
Nevermind on the usb question. I was able to zoom in on your video and see you picked the 3.56.zip. So now that the new official rom is out, would you still recomend Garmen? If so DK1 or DK2? As far as speed and stability goes which do you think is better? As far as the offical rom, I had the smart voicedialing on my last phone and i liked it. but it seems from the postings on the 26th article that its not as seemless as everyone thought.
@Jaycann: The process works fine on Vista. I was using Vista 64-bit edition whenever I did these videos.
and now I’m using the Laurentius v12 ROM and it’s quite good but I also really like the Garmins still.
And by smart voicedialing what program do you mean? Most ROMs come with Microsoft Voice Command and that’s really good, I don’t have any problems with it really.
